Jewel of Indian fruits, Mango インド果実の宝石 マンゴー

This fruits is mango which is able to be gathered only between may to august in India.

This is my challenging story to eat the jewel of Indian fruits.

これはインドでは5月から8月に収穫されるマンゴー。

今回は、インド果実の宝石、マンゴーを食べる挑戦。

You know, living in India is a tough in work and in life for the Japanese. But I think that we also have been having a lot of good experience through the life in India. I'm going to write a story of such a good part of India.

Now, do you know where mango originally came from? Mango is indigenous plant of India. Indian mango has cultivated four thousand years ago. Mango was mentioned in holy scripture of buddhism as "holy tree".

インド生活は、ご存知のとおり日本人には生活面でも仕事面でも大変なもの。でもね、インド生活を通じて、よい経験もたくさん。今回はそんなお話を記録。

さて、マンゴーの原産国はご存知？マンゴーはインド発祥の果物。4000年前からインドにはマンゴーがあったと、仏教の経典にも”聖なる木”として登場。

Some Indians says they have a thousand kind of mango in our country. I don't know if it is true or not. But we can get many kind of mango in the indian's local market between may and august. Indian Mango gets ripe when the Indian monsoon begins every year. Indian monsoon comes in July, normally. 

Of course, we can get it for the local price. It is around 20 JPY per one. So, I introduce  some kind of Indian mango below.

インド人たちは、インドには1000種類のマンゴーがあると言うが、真実かは知らない。ただ、インドの5月から8月にはローカルマーケットに行けば様々なマンゴーを買うことが可能。インドのマンゴーは毎年モンスーンの初期に一気に熟す。インドのモンスーンは、例年は7月始まり。

もちろん、我々はマンゴーをインド価格で手に入れる。だいたい一個20円。では、いくつかのマンゴーの種類を以下にてご紹介。

This is the king of mango named Alfonso. It has deep sweet and sour taste. This is the most famous and high-priced mango in India. The fact is that India exports this mango to Japan in small amount. The export to Japan was already over in this season.

これは、マンゴーの王様、アルフォンソ。味は深い甘みと酸味あり。インドで最も人気があり、最もお高い。実は、少量だけ日本にも輸出されている。今シーズンは終了。

This is named Safeda. Safeda means "White" in Hindu. Its taste is mild sweet and less sour. But it is bigger and cheaper than Alfonso. I like it.

これは、サフェーダ。サフェーダとは、ヒンディー語で”白”の意味。味は、甘くて酸味が少ない。でも、アルフォンソよりも大きくて安い。これ好き。

This is named Chousa. The size of this mango is similar to Alfonso. The taste is deep sweet and a little bit spicy, I think... the most important fact of Chousa is that you can still eat it as long as it is nectariferous even if its color is green.

これはチョーサ。アルフォンソとおんなじくらいのサイズ。味はとても甘くて、ほんのちょっとスパイシーな感じ。最大の特徴は、蜜さえ出ていれば、緑色でも食べごろだと言うこと。

In mango season of India, you can eat mango as much as you want whenever you want to. Of course I love mango, it is so happy experience. In addition, there is a event called mango festival which is held at the end of June every year. I was looking forward to it this year.

Unfortunately, its schedule was changed by the organizer, it had already been over before I knew it.

But it is also a good experience for me. All I have to do is  just to watch the information carefully so I won't  miss it next year, as if I completely adapt myself to Indian culture.

Because I live here. This is India. Seize the day!!

インドのマンゴーシーズンは、マンゴー好きであれば、食べたいだけどうぞ。もちろん、マンゴー好きなので、この経験は自分にとって幸福なもの。さらに、マンゴーフェスティバルと言うイベントが6月末開催予定で、結構楽しみにしてたけど。。。

残念ながら、主催者によりリスケされ、知らないうちに既に終了。でも、これもまた良い経験。来年は逃さないように、注意深く情報収集するだけ。インド 文化にぴったり合わせるかのごとく。

なぜなら、ここはインド。これがインド。楽しんだもの勝ち!!

Lead the way into "Hauz Khas Village" in Delhi, India インドファッションの最先端 ハウスカスビレッジ

This photo is the fashionable neighborhood of Hauz Khas Village in Delhi.

This is my challenging story to go to the most fashionable neighborhood in India.

この写真は、ファッショナブルな街、ハウスカスの様子。

今回は、インドの流行最先端、ハウスカスに挑戦。

This district has been re-developed into fashionable town by new young designers and entrepreneurs. So Japanese call the district “Daikan-yama in Delhi”.

ここは、インドの若いデザイナーや起業家によってファッショナブルな街として再開発された地域。日本人は呼ぶ、”デリーの代官山”と。

This district has two areas. One is fashionable area, the other is historical area. I write from a historical side, first.

This district was brought land into cultivation in 13th century by Ala al-Din Khalji. This century  also built the Qutub Minar which was already posted on past as Tour of the World Heritage "Qutub Minar". The district is called Hauz Khas. "Hauz"  means water storage pond and "Khas" means royal by Urdu. So Hauz Khas still have water storage pond like this photo.

この地域には二つのエリアがあり、一つはファッショナブルな、もう一つは歴史的なもの。まず最初は、歴史の方から。

この地域は、13世紀にアラーウッディーンハルジーによって開墾された街。これは過去にアップした記事、クトゥブミナールと同じ時期。この地域はハウスカスと呼ばれるけど、ウルドゥー語でハウス（貯水池）、カス（王家）の意味。だから、ハウスカスには今もなお写真のように貯水池が。

Ala al-Din Khalji who was the third king of Khalji dynasty made not only "Hauz" but also expanded its territory, developed a culture and consolidated domestic politics. Now, you can see heritage of his made in Qutub Minar. He expanded the park of the land eleven times bigger than the original size.

And He constructed new gate and he tried to construct a new Minaret. But new Minaret was not complete like this photo which was taken at Qutub Minar park.

アラーウッディーンハルジーはハルジー王朝時代の三番目の王、彼は貯水池を作っただけでなく、領土を広げ、文化や内政基盤を構築。今もなお、ハルジーの遺産がクトゥブミナールで見ることができる。彼は、建築時より11倍に公園を広げ、新しい門を立て、新しいミナレット（塔）も建てようとした。ただ、写真のように 新ミナレットは完成せず。この写真は、クトゥブミナール公園で過去に撮ったもの。

In the 14th century, Khalji dynasty was downfallen as punitive expedition by Tughluq dynasty. After that, Firuz Shah Tughlaq who was the third king of Tughluq dynasty also increased his own spread of land of Hauz Khas. He constructed new madrasa at Hauz Khas which means higher level school as Islamic word.

14世紀にハルジー朝はトゥグルク朝の手によって討伐。 その後、トゥグルク朝、三番目の王、フィーローズシャートゥグルクによってハウスカスは再発展。彼はここに新しいマドラサ（イスラムの言葉で言う高等教育の学校）を建築。

And, Hauz Khas have his tomb.

In this way, India have continued the flux and reflux of the tides like the other world.

また、ここには彼の墓も残る。
このように、インドも他の世界と同様、栄枯盛衰を繰り返している。

Now, this district has changed in a positive way as a fashionable town.

This shop is specialized in stationery and books.

現在、この地域は、ファッション地域としてよい方向に変化中。

このお店は、本と文房具関係の専門店。

This shop sells Indian jewelry.

ここは、インドアクセサリーのお店。

This shop sells bags designed by Indian young designers. I recommend it.

ここは、インドの若いデザイナーによる鞄のお店。ここおすすめ。

Also, this area has an art gallery.

アートギャラリーもあったり。

Not only shops, Hauz Khas has some nice restaurants. This shop is cafe. This type of cafe is rare in India.

お店だけでなく、ハウスカスには、イケてるレストランも。ここはカフェ。このタイプのカフェはインドではかなりレア。

Surprisingly, This shop serves Futomaki which is a kind of Sushi. Japanese couple manage this shop.

驚くべきことに太巻き屋さんが。日本人が夫婦で経営されてます。

More surprisingly, This shop serve dish of steak. Unfortunatly, We can eat buffalo meat in this restaurant. This taste is not bad.

もっと驚くべきことはこの店。ステーキが提供される。ただ、残念なことに、水牛ですけどね。まあまあかな。

Of course, you can eat Indian food in this area. This dish is Kashmiri cuisine. This is easy to taste for japanese. Which means it is not hot taste.

もちろん、インド料理も。この料理はカシミール料理。これは、日本人にも辛くなくて食べやすい料理。

Now, this district has very good and friendly atmosphere like this photo. We really hope India  continues to increase good things without trouble.

今や、この地域はこの写真のようにフレンドリーでとても良い雰囲気。インドがトラブルなく発展し続けることを本当に望むよ。

But we had trouble of puncture like this photo at this time.

そんな矢先、パンクのトラブルに見舞われたのだけどね。
