Lead the way into "Main Bazaar" in Delhi デリーの玄関口”メインバザール”

This photo is Main Bazaar as the front door of New Delhi station.

This is my challenging story to take photos in a crowded Main Bazaar.

この写真はニューデリー駅の玄関口にあるメインバザール。

今回は、雑踏のメインバザールを写真に撮る挑戦。

Main Bazaar is a street name. The alias of this street is Paharganj. "Pahar"  means hill and "ganj" means market  by Urdu.(Urdu is the official language of Pakistan and state of Jammu and Kashmir in India.). 

メインバザールとは、通りの名前。この場所は別名、パハールガンジとも言われる。パハールガンジとはウルドゥー語で、パハール（丘）、ガンジ（市場）の意味。（ウルドゥー語とは、パキスタンやインドのジャンムーカシミール州の公用語。）

This market was established as a castle town market in Mughal Empire era in the 17th century. That is the reason why this street is remaining as Islamic style. 

このマーケットは、17世紀頃、ムガル帝国時代に城下町の市場として作られたもの。なので、ストリートにはイスラムの面影が。

Now, This place is very famous town loved by backpackers all over the world as there are many cheap hostels. Cheap hostel, Restaurant, Grocery, Cloths, Souvenir and Money exchange, this market has several shops. This market which has many kinds of store is truly chaos.

今は、この場所は世界のバックパッカーから愛されるインドの安宿街としてすごく有名。安宿やレストラン、食料品店、服屋、お土産屋、両替商、多種な店が並ぶ。この多くの店を持つマーケットは、まさに混沌とした場所。

少し脇道にそれると、この写真のような景色に。前の記事とのギャップあり過ぎ。。。

This town is not only for buying and selling things, but also for people's lives in this chaotic main bazaar.

商売だけの街ではなくって、生活までも混沌の中にあるメインバザール。

These cloths in this photo produce great color. But they were sold in the full of dust and sand.

この写真の服は、すてきな発色。でも、砂ボコリ舞う中、販売中。

These cloths in this photo are... I don't know they were for sale or laundry dried in the sun.

This watermelon was also sold in the full of dust and sand. I heard that If Japanese have a bite of it, he may have diarrhea. Will you want to try it?

このスイカも砂ボコリ舞う中で販売中。聞いた話だと、もし日本人が一口食べると、おなか壊すらしいよ。試してみる？

Not only cloths and food, Mail bazaar has some nice souvenir shops. This shop is specialized store of waterpipe.

服屋や食べ物だけじゃなくって、すてきなお土産物屋さんも。この店は水タバコのお店。

And this shop is specialized store of doorknob. It is cool!!

この店は、ドアノブ専門店。これはかっこいい。

I want to explain why I was going to Main Bazaar. Last time, I met a professional photographer at dance competition. This story is written in this post "So you think you can bollywood dance!". In this time, he organized photo-tourism. I joined it and saw the other persons photos. It was great experience for me.
I was really understanding of photos in this tour. Great photographer has a talent!! 
That's what it boils down to.

なぜ、メインバザールに行ったかと言うと。前回、ダンスコンペ会場で出会ったプロのカメラマン。その話は、こちら "So you think you can bollywood dance!"をどうぞ。今回、その彼が、写真撮影ツアーを企画。それに参加して、他の方の写真を見せていただいた。この経験は、とても良かったね。
今回のツアーで、写真についての真髄を見た。すごいカメラマンはセンスで撮る!!
結局、これに尽きる。

So you think you can bollywood dance! ボリウッドダンス

This lady was dancing in a Bollywood style.

This is my challenging story to take photos at midnight for my wife who was challenging Bollywood dance.

この写真は、ボリウッドダンスを踊る女性。

今回は、ボリウッドダンスに挑戦する妻の写真を撮るという挑戦。

You know, bollywood dance was born in indian movie. "Bollywood" comes from Bombay(Mumbai) city where famous Indian movie studio is located and they wanted to make bollywood movies famous like Hollywood movie studio in the US. Bollywood movies represent emotions by dancing. For example, you can see Bollywood style dance in the movie of Slumdog Millionaire.

ボリウッドダンスは、その名の通りインド映画から生まれたダンス。ボリウッドとは、インド映画がボンベイ（ムンバイ）の映画スタジオにて作られることと、ボリウッドの街が、アメリカのハリウッドのように有名にしたいから。インド映画では、感情をダンスで表現する。例えば、スラムドッグ＄ミリオネアを見ることがあれば、そのダンスを見ることができる。

In this time, Japanese bollywood dance team which my wife belongs to participated in the dance competition. They were dancing outside at midnight like this photo. I took a photo of the dance of her team. It was very difficult for me to take photos in the dim light at midnight.

今回、妻が参加する日本人ボリウッドダンスチームが、ダンス大会に参加することに。彼女たちは、この写真のような夜の屋外会場でダンスを披露。このダンスの様子を写真に。夜の薄暗い環境を写真に切り撮るのは、かなり難しかった。

Also male team was participating . Many teams from Japan, France and India were participating in this event.

男性のみで参加のチームも。日本、フランス、インドから多くのチームが参加。

Wow!! Amazingly, the team my wife belongs to won this competition. Congratulation!!! 

I was very surprised every team performed dance very well.

いやぁ!! 驚いたことに、妻が参加するチームがこのコンペの優勝チームに。おめでとう!!!

どのチームのパフォーマンスも良くてすごくびっくり。

Well. you want to ask me why I took those photos in sepia. The answer is easy. I fell in with a professional photographer there. He took photos of sepia. After this competition, I saw his great photos. So I just imitated what he did!

え？なぜ、今回のブログの写真はセピア色かだって？答えは簡単。コンペ会場にて偶然出会ったプロカメラマン。彼はセピア色で写真を撮っていて、コンペの後、そのすばらしい写真を目の当たりに。だから、真似てみただけ！

Festival of Colors "Happy Holi !!!" 色の祭典 ハッピーホーリー!!!

Those indian girls are celebrating Holi.

This is my challenging story to join in Holi of Indian holiday.

この写真は、ホーリーを祝うインドの子供たち。
今回は、インドのお祭り「ホーリー」に挑戦。

Holi means the beginning of spring. But It is already warm in India. Holi also means a ritual to exorcise a demon. So Indian people paint each other with colorful powders as a ritual. And everybody says "Happy Holi" after painting them.  Holi is usually said as festival of colors.

ホーリーとは、春の訪れを意味する。でも、既にインドは暑くなってしまってるけどね。また、悪霊をお祓いする意味もある。だから、インド人たちはお祓いのために色の粉を互いに塗り合う。で、みんな、粉を塗った後、「ハッピーホリー」と言う。ホーリーは別名、色のお祭り。

These are color powders made in India. Indian people dissolve it and throw colored water on someone. And...

これが、インド製の色の粉。インド人たちは、これを溶かして誰かに色水をかけたり、

Everybody was painting color powder directly onto each other's face and body hoping for their happiness.

みんなで顔や体に直接粉を塗り、幸福を祈る。

Children were running about in the gaiety!

子供たちは大はしゃぎ！

Some children were painting much more powder onto their friends with no regard for their feelings.

ある子は、お構いなしに他の子に粉つけまくり。

Another child was targeting someone with a water gun.

別の子は、水鉄砲で狙いを定める。

Another child was making water balloon. And...

別の子は、水風船を用意し、、、

He was throwing it with all his force...

You know, You might think this festival is only for children...

力一杯投げつける。。。
これは、子供たちだけのお祭りと思うでしょ。。。

No way! 
Adults were also running about in the gaiety. Man was already painted by someone. And...

そんなわけない！
大人も大はしゃぎ。この人は、誰かに既に塗られてるし、、、

Cleaning worker was already painted.

掃除のおじさんも既に塗られてる。

Elderly was also painted.

おじいさんももれなく塗られてる。

Adults were enjoying Holi than children like this photo avobe. 

この写真のように、大人の方が子供よりも随分楽しんでいる。

But those young people seem not to celebrate Holi. They were just playing with mud.

これは、既にホーリーではなく、単なる泥遊び化している。

People were enjoying Holi everywhere. For example...on the trunk of the car... 

ホーリーでは、どこでも同じように楽しめる。例えば、車のトランクの上でも。。。

Ofcourse  we were enjoying Holi too. Our shirts were colored as if it was painted by an artist But...

もちろん、我々もホーリーを堪能。シャツは、画家のように染まったが、、、

However, more importantly, my camera was painted in Indian color too...

が、なんと、カメラも同じようにインド色に染められた。

Tour of the World Heritage "Qutub Minar" 世界遺産ツアー クトゥブミナール

This is the "Qutub Minar" which is a world heritage.
This is my challenging story to go to world heritage in India.

これは、世界遺産”クトゥブミナール”。
今回は、インドの世界遺産訪問に挑戦。

You know, India have many world heritages, which says a lot about  the long history of India. These are 23 sites of world culture heritages and 6 sites of  world nature heritages up to the present, 2013. I want to go to world heritages in India as much as I can until I go back to Japan. This time, I go to "Qutub Minar" which is nearest site of world heritage from my house.

インドには、多くの世界遺産があることをご存知？たくさんある事実がインドの長い歴史を物語ってます。2013年現在、インドには23個の文化遺産と6個の自然遺産がある。日本に帰るまでにできるだけたくさんのインド世界遺産を見ておきたい。そんなことで、今回、自分の家から一番近いクトゥブミナールに行ってみた。

When you enter the park of Qutub Minar, you need to buy ticket. If you are not Indian, you should be lining up in foreigner's cue. But if you are working in India, you can be lining up in Indian cue with pan card or FRRO document. Indian ticket fee is cheeper than foreigners'. Ofcourse, I was lining up in Indian cue for buying ticket.

クトゥブミナールに入りたい場合、チケットを買う必要がある。インド人じゃない場合、普通は外国人の列に並ぶ。ただし、もしインドで働いているなら、インド人の列に並ぶことができる（納税カードや外国人登録が必要）。インド人には安い入場料が設定されてる。もちろん、インド人列に並んでチケットを購入。

Qutub Minar is an Islamic mosque built by Qutb al-Din Aybak who was king of Dehli Sultanate on 13c. This minaret(tower) was over 100 meter when it was built. But its tip section went down when earthquake or some accident occurred and now it is 72.5 meters height.

クトゥブミナールは13世紀にデリースルタン朝の王であったクトゥブアルディン-アイバクによって建てられたイスラムのモスク。このミナレット（イスラムで言うタワー）は、建てた当初100メートルを超える高さだったらしいが、過去の地震か何かの影響で先端が折れ今は72.5メートル。

Because this Minaret is Islamic style, it has botanical sculpture like a photo above.

なので、ミナレットには、植物形のイスラム様式の彫刻が施されているし。

And, those windows in the mosque have blinds of star shape.

モスクの窓には、星形の日よけが施されている。

Qutub Minar was build after HIndu temple was broken. So some blocks of Hindu temple were used for Qutub Minar's monument. You can find mix culture of Islamic and Hindu from this photo above.

クトゥブミナールは、過去のヒンドゥーのお寺を破壊した後に建てられた。このため、クトゥブミナールのモニュメントには、一部ヒンドゥー様式のレンガも使用されてる。写真の柱には、イスラムとヒンドゥーのミックスカルチャーが存在する。

Additionally, Qutub Minar have famous pole. This pole was made by steels and was built on 5c. This pole have been standing for 1500 years, nevertheless it doesn't get rusted still now. There are various theories as to reason why it didn't get rusted. The dominant reason seems that this pole was coated by phosphorus when it was made.

さらに、クトゥブミナールには有名なポールがある。このボールは鉄製で5世紀に作られたもの。1500年間も立ち続けているにも関わらず錆びていない。その理由は諸説あるが、最も有力な理由は、製造途中にリンによりコーティングされたことのよう。

This park is loved by Indian people. Indian children are coming for field trip, it is really happy and peace. 

この公園は、インド人に愛される場所。子供たちが遠足に来ていたり、平和そのもの。

Spring has already passed away in India, now is the beginning of summer. I was thirsty when I came back to outside the park. I wanted to drink something, but I had no idea whether Japanese stomach could keep down that drink sold outside the park.

インドは既に春が過ぎ、初夏がやってきた。公園の外に戻ってきたとき喉が渇いていたけど、これを飲んでいいかどうか（日本人の体に受け付けるかどうか）わからなかった。

Adventure Life in India アドベンチャーインディア

You  can see a lot of landscape like this photo everywhere in India.
This is my challenging story to walk around in India.

こんな景色、まだまだ、ごろごろあるインド。
今回はインドの街歩きに挑戦。

Infrastructure of road in India is undeveloped state. Of course, the main road is already developed like this photo. 
Unlike advanced country, it is tough for you to walk on the road on your foot in this country.
So, I use a car and driver offered by our company in order to go to work and to live a life here.

When you only see this aspect, you would say I'm like a posh person. I introduce you some parts of how I live a life everyday in India.

On a holiday, I didn't have a plan to use my car. So, my driver took a day off. But I realized I needed to go to a bank to withdraw money for urgent use.
I had no choice but  to walk to a bank to get my cash.

インドの道路は、未整備な状態。もちろん、幹線道路は立派なモノも多いけど。

先進国と同じように、どこへでも自分の足で歩いていくには厳しい。仕事や生活を成り立たせるために、会社から車とドライバーを割り当ててもらってます。
ここだけ見ると、”どんなセレブ生活だ？”と日本人なら言うかもね。では、どんなインド生活なのか一部をご紹介。

ある日の休日、用事もなく車を使う予定がなかったのでドライバーは休暇。でも、どうしても至急、現金が必要になり銀行に行かねばならないことに。仕方ないので、家からお金を求めて徒歩移動に挑戦。

I walked on the road above.You may say "Hey! this road looks easy to walk".
In fact, those roads like above have fewer traffic Signals than main roads in India. But every Indian driver runs as fast as they drive in a high way. You have to across the road, avoiding those driver's cars. Which is quite dangerous.
Then in sidewalk...

上のような道路を徒歩にて。この写真だと、”なんだ、歩けるじゃねーか！”と言うでしょうね。実はインド、大通り以外は信号が少ない。けど、どんな道でも高速道路並みの速さで走るインドの車たち。これを避けながら、道路をわたるのです。かなり危険。
で、歩道はというと、

Construction tools were cluttered, and... 
工事道具が歩道にちらかされていたり、

They construct without any construction tools, and... 
でも工事道具なしで、工事をしていたり、

Suddenly, appeared pitfalls, and... 
いきなり、落とし穴が登場したり、

Cow(vehicle of God in Hindu) lead an ordinary life, and... 
普通に神の乗り物（牛）がいたり、

Monkey lead an ordinary life, and... 
普通に猿がいたり、

Indian driver runs fast on the road like high way by car. Nevertheless this man was riding the vehicle in a slow speed, and... 
高速道路のような道を、こんなのが走っていたり、

Nevertheless this man was sitting on the road and selling the vegetable. (Maybe, he cannot get money. Because nobody stop on this road.)

If you think something while walking, you are definitely caught in some Indians traps. Which is real Adventure World!

高速道路のような道で、野菜の路上販売していたり（売れないって）、
考え事なんてしながら歩くと、間違いなく何らかの罠にハマるアドベンチャーワールド。

I went through many traps,  I could go to bank to withdraw my cash.

In fact, sold goods on the street are not good quality. Because I think Indian's atmosphere get polluted by deep smog for industry, unfortunately. Indian's atmosphere make me pause to buy those goods from costermonger. Even if I had a chance to buy, I would hesitate to do so.
I write how to get vegitables in India for Japanese.

なんとかトラップをくぐり抜け、銀行を発見しお金を手にすることに。

そういえば、路上販売。残念ながらインドもスモッグがきつく、環境に良いとはまったく言えない。なかなか、路上販売ものは挑戦できないなぁ。機会があっても遠慮したい。
そんなインドの日本人の青果事情。

This is vegetable aisle of the supermarket. The photo was taken in a luxury market. Looks good, but that is very disappointing, because they are fade.

I eat Indian foods which is oily normally. Which has changed my body constitution. My body became to require vegetables. (you may say "that's incredible" If you know my life in Japan...) I found how to get any fresh vegetables on google and rumors. Which is "go to farm and buy fresh vegetables by myself".

スーパーの野菜売り場。ちなみに写真は高級マーケット。綺麗に見えるけど、萎びていて非常に残念な野菜たち。

オイリーなインド料理を食べているので、野菜を欲する体に変化しました。（日本の生活では考えられないね。。。）新鮮な野菜はないのか、調べたところ、ありましたよ、調達方法。農場に行き、刈り取った物を買い取る方法が。

This the picture of farm I went. when you want to buy some vegetables, you choose them and ask the staff to harvest them from the field and purchase them. They are really fresh. However, I  also know vegetables have been exposed to smog in this farm. . .
Incidentally, the name of this farm is Tej Farm. (Open from Oct. to Feb. every year)

(If you will come from central Delhi, you pass Chhatanpurh metro station on M.G.Road. And, you will find the crossing M.G.Road and Gadaipur Mandi Road. You turn left on Gadaipur Mandi Road. Then, you go forward until you find Ad by "Sultanpur Farms". When you find the Ad, you turn right. Finally you turn left on first crossing.)

I think these topics like "Call a driver" or "Choose any vegetables in the field" " sounds really posh, but in India case, I have various enemies and many events occur. It's like an adventure.( which is such as adventure game!)

写真は、農場の様子。野菜を指名し、刈り取った分、購入する感じ。すごい新鮮。ただ、この農場もスモッグにさらされてるんだけどね。。。
ちなみに、この農場はTej Farm。（開いているのは10月頃から2月頃まで）

（デリー方面から車で、メトロChhatanpurh駅を過ぎ、M.G.Roadから左斜め前方Gadaipur Mandi Roadに入る。道路が怪しくなるもまっすぐ前進。進行方向前方右にSultanpur Farmsの看板が出たら右折。一つ目の辻を左折でゴール。）

ドライバーや農場買い付けなんて話はセレブっぽいのに、その道中に発生するイベントはアドベンチャー。まるで、毎日がゲームの様に、いろんなイベントや敵が発生してしまうインド！

You know, One foot out the door and you can find this scene which is a daily occurrence. This is real Adventure World!

ほら、一歩外に出れば、こんな光景が日常茶飯事。アドベンチャーワールド！
